Because of the dynamic nature of the retail industry and the specialty retail industry in particular, Circuit City engages in strategic planning activities on a regular basis. The strategic planning process involves key executives from all parts of the business, senior management and the Board of Directors. The strategic planning activities are designed to develop a multi-year strategic view and long-term financial plan with the goal of best serving the long-term interests of the company and its shareholders. The executive committee of the senior management team is responsible for the strategic planning process and its outputs. The committee determines appropriate strategic priorities and financial targets. Other key executives develop business and financial plans by major business area to address the company's strategic position and financial goals. From these points of view, the executive committee formulates the multi-year strategic plan. The Board of Directors approves the strategic plans, monitors their implementation and assesses their effectiveness. The senior management team collectively provides strategic direction and related implementation guidance to Associates. In addition, the senior management team routinely meets to discuss strategic plans and implications of those plans. |
